The Octopus Venture Partners – Adding Value to Portfolio Companies
The Venture Partners are a group of top tier business leaders, entrepreneurs and private investors who invest on a deal-by-deal basis alongside Octopus' VCT and EIS Funds. To date, the Venture Partners are one of the most active private investing groups in the country and have committed over £27.5million into new businesses.
To Octopus and our portfolio companies the Venture Partners are much more than just co-investors - they are introducers, both of deals and industry contacts; entrepreneurs; sector leaders; mentors; advisors; board members - they share our passion for business and our desire to see companies succeed. Around a quarter of our Venture Partners have had some kind of formal involvement with the portfolio and all the Venture Partners share their insights and contacts, initially to help review businesses and post investment, to help grow the businesses. Ultimately, their knowledge and contacts can be transformational for our portfolio companies.
Venture Partners pay an annual membership fee and once Octopus has agreed investment terms with a Company, the management team will be required to present the investment opportunity to members of the Octopus Venture Partners who are entitled to invest alongside our VCT and EIS Funds on the same terms. The presentation gives the Partners the opportunity to assess the Company's investment case and, as importantly from the Company's perspective, often serves to identify Partners that are qualified and available to add value to the Company.
