The Company and Our Investment
Surrey NanoSystems was established in 2006 as a spin-out from the University of Surrey's Advanced Technology Institute (ATI), who had developed pioneering intellectual property concerning the fabrication of CNTs at low temperature. This allowed the company to quickly develop an architectural platform called NanoGrowth. This equipment implements a unique process incorporating ATI's patented know-how, and several unique additional techniques, that deliver the conditions for the growth of precision CNTs at both the temperatures and densities needed for state-of-the-art CMOS ICs.
From the outset, Octopus was impressed by the management team's vision,
enthusiasm, and professionalism and the advantages presented by the unique
technology, together making for a compelling investment opportunity. The funding will be used to develop partnerships with established semiconductor chip manufacturers, and jointly develop commercial scale versions of its technology.
"Octopus is an ideal investment partner for Surrey NanoSystems. Their insight into what it takes to successfully expand innovative, market-changing businesses, combined with the access to substantial hands-on industry expertise provided through the Octopus Investor Group, is already proving invaluable to our business."
